Ideal Ways to Organise and Display Your Clothes Luxuriously
Reorganising your clothes is not something you are going to do very often, so when you finally decide to do it, you might as well do it properly, while letting your clothes feel like decor rather than a messy pile of textile. With good organisation and proper displaying of your clothes, you’ll be more likely to wear everything you have, or to know which pieces of clothes have outlived their usefulness.
Having your clothes well organised, with luxurious appearance, and boutique-like layout (be it in a big walk-in closet, a smaller closet, or even no closet at all) is not as difficult as it may seem when you look at photos on Pinterest or Instagram.
Getting Started
Regardless of the space you have to work with, don’t let yourself panic looking at the piles upon piles of clothes.
There are many theories and guidelines about the best ways to begin organising your closet. What they all have in common is the idea of starting from scratch. This means taking all of your clothes out of your closet. To go even further in making it all easier for yourself, some further advise organising your clothes outside of your closet, by separating them in categories.
This will make it easier for you to hang and fold them later, but also to see all the clothes you have, and select those that you no longer use, into a pile labelled “donations”, and keep only those that you really wear and love.
A good way to always know what’s where, is to organise your clothes according to colour. It’s not the easiest way to organise, but it will definitely make choosing an outfit become stress-free, and, not to mention, much less time-consuming.
Again, don’t panic! Take a few deep breaths and start scanning your clothes storage space. There is always more space than you can see. Don’t only focus on what you already have, pay attention to what you think might provide you with more options. Think about things that can help you clean out the mess. What items can keep your clothes and other belongings organised? How can you display them nicely and beautifully? Think clothing racks, hooks, wall and door hangers, storage baskets, boxes, trinket boxes, hanging shelves etc.
Next step is to clean the closet, so you can start working. For your walk-in closet, choose the colours for the walls; if you don’t have the space or a closet, select a space in your bedroom or other room in your apartment, for displaying your clothes.
If you want that luxurious look from the movies for your closet, don’t look at it simple as a clothing storage unit, but rather as a display unit for your fashionable pieces. This way, instead of going crazy choosing what to wear, you will be able to look at your clothes as if you were selling them to yourself, and easily think of an outfit. If you don’t have enough space to hang everything, make sure to choose well. Hang your most delicate clothes, and fold t-shirts, jumpers, sweaters, jeans etc. Of course, store them in categories – for instance, stack jumpers in one pile, jeans in another one.
Luxurious and Convenient
Preparing for work or for going out can be tedious, but well organised closet will make it easier. When you decide to revamp your clothing storage and display system, don’t only think about clothes or storing. Make sure to have space for everything you would need to get ready to leave the house, without stressing out about where to find things, while also feeling fancy.
Look for new creative ideas to organise drawers. Buy drawers organisers, or make them yourself. Don’t overlook smaller items. Organise your underwear, your jewellery, your watches, your sunglasses…
Display your shoes and bags like you would in a boutique, and use them as decorations. This will look good, but it will also protect them, and help you choose the right ones for your outfit. For even more order, or for further space-saving, add more shelves or baskets. If you feel like this won’t help you feel organised enough, put some of your belongings, or even most of them if you must, in boxes labelled by categories!
Even More Luxurious
Create a cosmetic and make-up applying station, by adding mirrors, a stool, and a small desk if you have the space, or use other pieces of furniture, to double as a stool, or as a desk – such as a dresser. Mirrors are a must-have when it comes to getting dressed and accessorised. Make mirrored doors, hang a mirror near your closet, or choose any other way to add them near or in your closet. They are not only there so that you can look at yourself, but also, they will make your room, or your walk-in closet seem wider.
If you are lucky to have a walk-in closet, clothing racks can give you even more options for organisation and displaying. They can stand on their own, or become a part of your no-door cabinets. They can also be a great addition to help you organise your normal closet, or to stand next to it to give you a display option for your most used clothes, or to declutter your closet if you have too many garments. If you don’t have a closet, clothing racks can play that role on their own.
Instead of looking as a temporary solution to a lack of closet situation, beautiful designer clothing racks will create a feeling of a deliberately designed open closet in your bedroom. A quality clothes hanger rack can add such class to your closet, that will feel like having your own boutique display. It will give you a way to see your clothes properly, while helping you prolong their lives, and it’s a perfect way to give your clothes room to shine.
To make sure to always have your clothes organised, install designer clothing racks on your wall in the hallway, or in your bedroom. Use them for your coats, your bags, your night gowns, your more delicate clothing…
If you have the option, leave some empty space. It will give your closet an even more luxurious touch, and it will help you keep things tidy.
Think of Your Needs
Keep in mind that your wardrobe should be an asset. Its purpose is not simply to store your clothes and other items, but rather to help you save time when getting ready, and when putting your things away. If you can’t display everything, choose according to your needs. For example, display your suits, your dresses or your good pants neatly on quality hangers, if you use them every day; organise your workout clothes in labelled boxes if you are a sports type; have a special drawer for your jewellery if accessorising is your passion etc.
