The Ideal Way To Take Care Of Your Commercial Fridges
Commercial fridges are the most important part of any food service business and without them, maintaining the food for longer period would be impossible. When a commercial fridge breaks down, many difficulties appear, causing hard headaches to the business owners. Indeed, commercial fridges do not last forever, but properly maintained fridges last longer than the ones that are not.
Before you start cleaning your refrigerator, make sure it is unplugged. Keeping all of the mechanical parts of commercial fridges clean will help you keep your unit working properly. The parts of commercial fridges that need to be cleaned regularly are: condenser coil, fan blades, motor and interior.
Condenser Coil: This is the most important part of any fridge and its location on its varies. To locate the condenser coil, look up in the owner’s manual or ask a fridge technician to find it for you. The condenser coil needs to be cleaned once a month, so it will be free of dirt, lint or/and dust. Use a special condenser coil cleaner to clean it, which can be found in any kitchen appliances retailer. Brush the condenser fins from the bottom to the top. Brushing it from side to side is WRONG! Then, if there are bent fins, straighten them using a basic comb for hair.
Fan Blades & Motor: The fan blades and the motor on commercial fridges should also be checked and cleaned once in a month. Cleaning these parts is very easy, you only need a soft cloth to run over the fan blades and the motor. Sometimes, the blades may require to be washed. To wash them, first cover the motor with a dry cloth to prevent damage from the moisture and proceed.
Interior: When cleaning the interior of commercial fridges, remember to avoid using steel wool, bleach or caustic cleaning chemicals. These products can cause severe damage to the finish of the refrigerator and they may also leave horrible chemical scents that can affect your the flavour of stored food. The best cleaning product for the interior of your fridge is a DIY product: warm water and mild soap. This cleaning method should be performed once per week. Remove the door gaskets from the fridge, put them in a water-soap-mixture and leave them for half an hour. Next, dry them and put them back on the fridge.
To ensure proper food safety, it is important to regularly check the temperature of your fridge. Check the holding temperature of your unit several times every day. Extremely low temperature can spoil stored food. If the temperature is low often, there might be a problem with the refrigeration system. Keep these parts well maintained and you will have your commercial fridges for many years to come!
