Poncho: The Ideal Type of Women’s Outer Garment

Whether with or without sleeves, a poncho is a type of jumper that is the perfect addition to every woman’s wardrobe. Generally speaking, ponchos can come in a range of materials (both lightweight and thick) and in a range of styles such as boho, casual, classy and elegant as well.

One of the main reasons why women are falling so hard for ponchos is because of their comfiness and appearance. When it was first introduced, this unique cover-up, looked like a blanket with wide loose sleeves, rich colours and luxurious materials and was worn by both men and women. Even Clint Eastwood bought one for himself for the character in the classic Western movie “A Fistful of Dollars”. He styled it with black Levi’s jeans which was an iconic look (and still is) liked by many, even by the film’s director Sergio Leone who reused the poncho for two more of Eastwood’s characters “ The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” and “For a Few Dollars More”.

Since poncho is considered a stylish piece of garment that can be worn by both men and women of all ages, it can be easily matched with any type of outfit. When talking about older ladies jumpers, ponchos and wrap vests are a must and since they love the idea of wearing simple and neutral outfits, and a textured or colourful garment can add some colour or interest. Since there are different types of ponchos, some of them can be worn without nothing else underneathm (if they have well-fitted sleeves).

Generally speaking, there is a huge selection of younger and older ladies jumpers options and ponchos, in particular, are considered a universal type of garment that can be worn by women of all ages and with different styles. Usually, ponchos look great when paired with well-fitted jeans or pants, a well-fitted shirt/t-shirt and close-fit boots. When the days are colder, the muted woollen ponchos are great for achieving that chic, cosy, yet elegant style, and for the warmer days, a lightweight poncho or wrap west would be just fine. On rainy or snowy days, you can wear a hooded poncho which also goes perfectly with rain boots.

When it comes to choosing the right colour or design, mature women tend to choose ponchos in earthy tones and pair it with a white top and close-fitting trousers. To make things more elegant and stylish, adding a thick leather belt around the waist and over the poncho would be perfect.

Tip: Petite women should go for ponchos with hem ends around the hips as this can visually enhance the body shape while lengthening the legs.
