Jaw Crusher- The Ideal Crushing Machine

The crushing equipment plays very important role in the mining and construction industry, where crushed materials are being used for a variety of applications. There are different types of crushing machines on the market, with different specifications and configuration. For every specific crushing task there is a specifically designed crushing machine. One particular crushing machine that is heavily used is the jaw crusher. A jaw crusher is described as a machine that breaks hard materials, usually rocks and stones, into smaller pieces. The jaw crusher is most commonly used at the mining sites where they break different kinds of ores. When used at the construction sites and in processing facilities, the jaw crusher can be either stationary machine installed on a fixed location, or a portable machine that can be moved from one location to another. For some tasks, the jaw crusher can also be used as a tool attached on a loader or excavator.

As mentioned above, the jaw crusher is most commonly used at the mining sites. It is used for breaking large rocks and ores into smaller pieces. The jaw crusher is usually used as a primary crushing machine that reduces the size of the materials. Large rocks and ores are inserted in the jaw crusher from the opening at the top, usually through the mouth of the crushing chamber. Inside, there are two plates which crush the materials. When materials are poured inside the jaw crusher, a hydraulic pressure moves the plates and crushes the materials into smaller pieces. The crushing procedure continues until the materials are small enough to move freely through the bottom opening. Secondary crushing machines are used when the materials need to be crushed into much smaller pieces.

Generally, there are two types of jaw crushers on the market: overhead eccentric and double toggle. Every jaw crusher uses different crushing method and comes with specific configuration. Although they are used for the same purpose, their structure is quite different. The double toggle jaw crusher is composed of a stationary jaw, swing jaw, a pivot point, eccentric shaft, and a set of toggles. On the other hand, the overhead eccentric jaw crusher is designed with adjusting wedges, flywheel, a pullman, hydraulic rams, crushing chamber, and a sizing gap.

One noticeable difference between the overhead eccentric and the double toggle jaw crusher is the position of the pivot point. The pivot point is actually the moving joint that connects the walls of the crushing chamber. At the overhead eccentric jaw crusher, the pivot point is located at the bottom, while at the double toggle jaw crusher, the pivot point is on the top. The double toggle jaw crusher is a preferred option because it is easy to operate and consume less energy when compared with the overhead eccentric jaw crusher.
