The Ideal Kids Motorcycle Gear to Keep Your Little Adventurer Safe

The period when their kids start riding a motorcycle is nerve-racking for most parents. Ideally, you’d want to just wrap your little ones in bubble wrap so they don’t hurt themselves when riding, but they will hate you for that. Dress them up in the right protective clothing with some cool kids motorcycle gear and, granted, they will love you for the awesome parent you are.

Although riding a motorcycle comes with certain risks, there are plenty of ways that you can reduce the chances of your kid getting hurt. The first step is to choose the type of motorcycle that best fits your child’s age and level of development. Then, you need to ensure that he/she has the right protective gear and follows the correct safety rules when riding. Here’s a list of the necessary kids motorcycle gear that your child should have in order for you to have a peace of mind.

Helmet

I don’t mean that old bicycle helmet covered in dust that you’ve had for years in the garage. For optimum safety, your child will need a good-quality full-face motorcycle helmet that will protect his chin and the sides of his head. Besides choosing a quality helmet, it is also important to choose a model that perfectly fits the shape of his head as well.

Boots

After you’ve chosen a good helmet, look for a good set of riding boots. Aside from protecting your kid’s feet and shin in all kinds of situations, for really small children, a pair of boots can be the difference between reaching the ground or being too short to ride.

Gloves

Some people say that a good pair of mountain bike gloves will work just fine, but keep in mind that the first thing that will hit the ground if your child falls are his hands. Investing in a quality pair of motorcycle riding gloves will reduce the chances of scratches and severe injuries. Ideally, the gloves should be lightweight, have excellent grip and allow flexibility so that your kid can still hit the brake and the clutch.

Chest, Back & Neck Protection

Body armor is vital for anyone riding a motorcycle, especially for young riders. To ensure that your kid stands up smiling after a tumble, look for a chest protector with an integrated core, shoulder and back protection. A good quality neck brace is also vital to ensure that your kid’s head will be supported in case of a fall.

Riding Pants

Look for riding pants that come with integrated knee guards to spare you from buying them separately. While you can get him a sturdy pair of pants when he is still learning, purpose-made riding pants are designed to keep your kid cool when he’s hot, and won’t tear in case he falls off the bike.

Riding Goggles

The last item on our list is the riding goggles. This is a relatively inexpensive piece of kids motorcycle gear that will keep the dirt out of your kid’s eyes, helping him to better focus on controlling the bike.
