Find the Ideal Rock Sliders For Your Toyota Hilux

If you are like me and you are always looking for the next gadget you can put on your 4×4, then this rock sliders review is just right for you. Since I fell in love with my Toyota running boards, it’s only fair to share my experience with you. But before we go on, I have to point out that prior to adding the rock sliders, I already had all other equipment installed including: bull bars, side rails and headlight protectors. So, all that was left was to add my rock sliders and have the final version complete. If you too want to add rock sliders to your Toyota, let’s take a look at some of the factors which determine their quality.

HREW or DOM Steel

HREW and DOM describe the process of making of the steel, whereas 1020 refers to the steels properties. HREW (hot rolled electric resistance welded) is a very good material for rock sliders because the tubing is economical and very strong built so that it can endure the roughest terrains. DOM (drawn over mandrel) is even stronger then HREW which is why I chose this material for my Toyota running boards. However, it is also more expensive as this type of steal is cold-worked and drawn over a mandrel in order to improve the molecular structure of the steel and to smoothen it out. To be honest, it doesn’t really make that much of a difference which material you go for since they are both incredibly strong, however, if you need a bit more support, you should go for DOM.

Installation

You can attach your rock slider in two ways, either by welding them to the body or frame of the car, or attaching them using bolts. Welding is definitely more secure, however bolts can do as good a job if properly installed. Whatever way you chose to do it, it’s very important that the rock sliders are installed securely to the frame of the car. What’s more, if you happen to flip your Toyota (like I did), you can use the rock slider to attach a winch so you can pull out your truck. There have been more than a few times when my Toyota running boards saved by behind.

Coatings

Some people think that it doesn’t seem like a good idea to get the sliders painted seeing as how they usually take the weight of the car in most situations and can be very quickly ruined. However, I personally think that adding a coat of paint is much better than getting them with no finish. Adding a colour that matches the rest of your car can add appeal to your truck and help it stand out more. Sure, it will get scratches over time, but that just adds character to your truck. You can choose to have your sliders painted by the manufacturer or if you have the option at home, you can do it yourself with a bucket of paint.
