Marshal Major 2 – The Ideal On-Ear Headphones
The simple and unique leather-ish look of Marshall’s range of products over the years has transcended into a new product that has bolstered through the pile of mediocre headphones. A year after their 50th anniversary, Marshall produced their first-ever headphones – the Major, and three years later, the Major II came out with this old-new look with subtle enough changes to make it stand out not only from the rest but from its predecessor too. Today we are going to talk about the second iteration of Marshal Major’s headphones and their features.
Design
If you are a fan of a retro look making a comeback into a minimalistic design form, well, these headphones are just perfect for you. They are well-padded and have a somewhat tight fit, but they are very light on the ears. The simple design combo of plastic and faux leather combined together with a gold accent colour and a touch of white makes the Marshall Major II the classiest headphones on the market. The textured finish on the earcups resembles Marshall’s well-known amplifiers and instrument accessories.
Performance
Their quality of sound is not the best in the market I’ll tell you that, but for what you are paying their sound is pretty clear and bass-oriented. While the latter is a common thing for budget to mid-range headphones, the former, well, not so much. The Marshall Major II’s perform very well even in the mids by putting vocals and lead instruments at the front.
The highs come at a below-average level but all this won’t make much of a difference for most people. For audiophiles, I recommend going with a pair of Bose or Sony headphones. While there is no noise canceling on these, audio leakage is surprisingly close to a high-end pair – which means that you won’t be disturbing other people on full blast. You can even share the music with a friend thanks to the two ports on each cup.
Portability
These headphones may not be the most compact pair, but if you are going to travel with them it’s best that you put them in your backpack or a rather large pocket. They are not the bulkiest either as the cups fold in to make for a more compact storing. Unfortunately, they do not come with a case but are very lightweight so you can simply wear them around your neck and forget they are even there.
Comfort
Since they are very lightweight, the band is made to clamp a little bit too tight on the head but with the padded cups, you won’t really feel that much of a pain unless you tend to listen to music for hours on end. The padding is actually very breathable and it won’t cause you to sweat. And although they are not meant to be worn when exercising, they actually hold up very well when doing cardio or stretching.
