Things to Bear in Mind When Looking for the Ideal Mitsubishi Exhaust System

The intake of air that your Mitsubishi needs in order to operate at an optimum level also has to be expelled out, which is typically done by the exhaust system. You could say that, in a way, for cars, exhaust systems are what lungs are to us. Although some might say that you shouldn’t fix what isn’t broken, if you want to get the most out of a vehicle like Mitsubishi or any other for that matter, an upgrade of this kind is the way to go. Although it isn’t the only one, it sure plays a major role in your vehicle’s performance. Here’s what you need to look for in an aftermarket exhaust system.

Thermal Barrier

I cannot stress how important is to have a thermal barrier on your new exhaust system. Without one, the intake won’t be able to prevent any thermal contamination which causes a decrease in the power department. Mitsubishi exhaust systems are usually equipped with one right off the bat, but make sure you double-check that when shopping.

Mandrel Vs. Compression

Although cheaper, compression bent exhaust tubing will actually reduce the efficiency of the air flow, which again has a negative impact on the overall vehicle performance. Mandrel bent tubing, on the other hand, will allow the gasses to go through more easily simply because there are no wrinkles on the corners to prevent that. Instead, mandrel bent tubes are smooth throughout the whole entire system.

Muffler & Piping

When it comes to the sound, you will have to choose it yourself. What I mean by this is that if you want a louder exhaust, then one with a smaller muffler will do just fine but if you want to drain out the annoying sound as much as possible, a bigger one is what you should get. Also, do consider the shape of the piping as an “X” pipe will exert a more toned down sound, while an “H” pipe will produce one with a higher pitch.

Material

If you are mostly going to drive around in an area where there’s a lot of rain, getting a standard exhaust system won’t be the smartest idea. In this case, you’ll be better off with getting Mitsubishi exhaust systems that have pipes made from stainless steel as this is a material that won’t corrode. Although cheaper, aluminium will corrode pretty easily. However, it is a lightweight yet tough material.

Emissions

Before you even consider ordering your new exhaust system, please check if it complies with the emission laws of your area. While a lot of dealerships mostly sell compliant systems, you never know when an aftermarket part will surprise you – they are called aftermarket parts for a reason.
