Otrivin Nasal Spray: The Ideal Way to Relieve a Stuffy Nose
Nothing seems to be more annoying than trying to get some air trough your nose when fighting with a cold. Dealing with stuffy nose is uncomfortable and if that describes you right now, you may be looking for a solution so you can get the much needed relief. Pharmacies offer an array of nasal spray options to help you unclog the nose, but the many different types usually target either blocked or a runny nose. However the Otrivin nose spray targets both of these things.
What Type of Nasal Spray is Otrivin?
This products belongs to the group of decongestant medicine sprays. A decongestant is a type of pharmaceutical drug that can provide short term relief for a blocked nose – a condition also known as nasal congestion. Nasal congestion is the blockage of the nasal passages usually due to membranes lining the nose becoming swollen from inflamed blood vessels.
How Does It Work?
The two active ingredients in the otrivin nose spray are the Xylometazoline hydrochloride and Ipratropium Bromide.
Xylometazoline causes the blood vessels in the linings of the nasal passages to contract and narrow. This will shrink swollen tissues and increase the nasal airflow, enabling your blocked nose to breathe easily.
The other ingredient, ipratropium bromide, treats a runny nose caused by the common cold- a condition called rhinorrhea. The way it works is by reducing the amount of fluid/mucus released from inside your nose.
What’s the Proper Way to Use It?
Just like with any other medicine, when using this spray what must you be careful about is to follow the right dosage – three times a day for a short term period of three days. Any prolonged usage can damage the delicate mucous membranes in the nose and cause increased inflammation. It should also be noted that the spray is effective when it remains where it’s intended to- in the nose, rather than draining down the back of the throat. Any amount that drains into the throat should be spit out.
What Can You Expect?
Unclogging the nose means being able to breathe with the nose instead with the mouth. This can resolve the snoring problems and sleeping disorder that you may have been experiencing lately. Also since 80% of our taste is related to smell, it’s not surprising that the flavour of a food comes from your ability to smell and clearing from the blocked nose makes appreciate good food again.
