Basics of a Child Hearing Test

The hearing test, also called pure tone audiometry (PTA), consists of an audiometer that plays certain sounds, and headphones that the tested individual is supposed to wear. The whole testing process happens as such: different frequencies, from low to high, are played to determine the faintest tone the child can hear, which will indicate the degree of hearing loss (if any).

The child will be asked to wear a headphones set to get information of each year, and be given certain tasks to fulfil. In the case of younger children, use of toys is implemented during the testing and the tasks are related to commands involving the toy. During hearing test for child, the child is asked to give responses by pressing buttons or raising the arms. The results of the hearing test are recorded in an audiogram which is a graph that illustrates the type and degree of hearing loss
