Listing the Ideal Camera Accessories
It won’t be long after you get your first DSLR camera that you’ll realize you can get much more out of your photography with different kinds of camera accessories. Whether photography is just your hobby or it’s your profession, having the right accessories can make things easier for you and it can definitely help you take better shots. But with the market being overwhelmed with all kinds of shiny thingamajigs, it can be really hard for a new photographer to decide what he actually needs. You don’t have to buy every single piece of equipment out there, but you do need to have a solid collection of the most commonly used camera accessories. Best thing to do is go online and take your time to browse the products of a camera accessories store. To help you get started, I have compiled a list of some of the essential camera accessories that will enable you to get the full potential of your DSLR camera.
1. Camera Bag
Ask any photographer and he will tell you the same thing: the first thing you need to get after buying a new camera is a camera bag. Not only will it protect your camera from the elements and during transport, but as you start to build up a collection of accessories you will need something to keep it all together and to be able to carry it with you wherever you go. You can find different kinds of camera bags in any camera accessories store, but I personally recommend getting a backpack since it is the most comfortable and has plenty of space.
2. Tripod
Tripods are an essential part of photography because they help you keep your camera absolutely still at exactly the right angle you need. This way you get sharp photos full of details. There are a lot of cheap tripods you can buy but they are not as stable and reliable as most of the well-known tripod brands such as Gitzo or Manfrotto. You want a tripod that is stable, takes up less room, is easy to deploy, and is easy to carry. As an addition to the tripod, you might also want to get a tripod head that suits your needs (though most tripods are sold with the head included) and a remote release which allows you to take shots without touching the camera.
3. Additional Lenses
Most cameras are sold with a standard zoom lens which is a good starting point, but soon you will find that you need either something a bit wider for shooting landscapes or interiors, or you may want to make close-up shots of small objects with a macro lens.
4. Filters
There are many filters with different effects such as neutral density filters for taking long exposure shots in daylight, or polarizing filters that cut down reflections and boost contrast and saturation. However, there are two types of filters: round and rectangular. Round filters are easier to use, but they need to be the the correct size while the rectangular ones can be transferred between lenses with the help of adapter rings.
5. Flashgun
While the built-in flash of your camera (if there is one at all) is useful for adding a little light to your shots, you will find that you will get more flattering results from a flashgun. It can be mounted on the camera or fired remotely for even better results. To make things easier it is best to get an automatic flashgun, but there are also manual ones.
You can find many other goodies in a camera accessories store such as camera vests, batteries, memory cards, lens caps and so on and as you gain experience you will know exactly which ones best suit your needs.
