The Ideal And Extremely Efficient Jib Crane
The jib crane is the most efficient lifting machine for industrial facilities and workshops. It is composed of a horizontal jib with a moveable hoist and can be mounted on the floor or on a wall. A jib crane mounted on the floor (or other stable foundation) has a higher load rating. The jib crane is usually utilized where there is no space for an overhead crane, and it offers many benefits and advantages over other crane types.
The efficiency is the main advantage of the jib crane. A jib crane for industrial purposes has many differences in terms of product features, applications and specifications. The specifications of the jib crane that need to be considered are:
- load capacity
- maximum lifting capacity
- horizontally available span.
In terms of features, the jib crane falls into the category of boom cranes, which means that it comes with a long beam which is structurally reinforced. The jib is supported by wires, running from the top of the jib to a stiffly braced vertical mast. A pulley system with cables or chains come along the whole length of the jib, usually wrapped around the drum or the cylinder of the jib crane.
The cables coming from the top of the jib are attached directly to the loads which are then vertically lifted. The loads can be moved not only vertically but also from side to side if the the jib crane has a pivot jib, or the crane has an ability to rotate on its base. A moving jib crane also consists of a pulley system that is suspended from a wheeled carriage and moves along the whole length of the jib. In some cases, special ballast weights are added in order to ensure higher stability of the jib crane. Despite its weight, the jib crane is very compact and requires only a little space for operations. Unfortunately, a small malfunction may lead to costly repairs, so a regular maintenance is recommended.
There are three main types of jib cranes:
- free standing
- mast type
- wall-mounted jib crane
A free standing jib crane is usually set on a concrete foundation and can rotate for 360º. It can be base plate mounted, sleeve insert mounted or foundation mounted. A mast type jib crane is the ideal and the most cost-efficient solution for the industrial facilities. It also can be rotated 360º, and unlike the free standing jib crane, it does not require a large foundation. The design of the wall-mounted jib crane allows rotation of 200º.
